Fresh and Simple Tomato Sauce

A classic Italian tomato sauce with just a few fresh ingredients — use as a base for pasta, pizza, soups, and more.

Ingredients

  • 3 tsp Italiano Pronto
  • 2 large cans whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 medium carrots, grated
  • 4 stalks celery, diced small
  • 1 large onion, diced small
  • 5-6 Tbsp olive oil

Directions

  1. Grate carrots and dice celery and onion into ¼" pieces or smaller.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Add carrots, celery, onion, and 1 tsp Italiano Pronto. Saute until softened.
  4. Add tomatoes and remaining seasoning. Simmer on low for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Run through a food mill for a smooth sauce, or leave chunky.

Tips

  • Grating the carrots on a cheese grater speeds up prep and helps them melt into the sauce.
Tip: This recipe features Italiano Pronto, but feel free to experiment with any of our 8 seasoning blends for your own twist.
